While you were sleeping: Kwaito Musician Mandoza dies at age 38

Just in case you missed it, South African Kwaito Musician Mandoza has died at the age of 38.

Sadly, The Kwaito superstar died September 18th 2016 after losing his battle to cancer. Mandoza whose real name is Mduduzi Edmond Tshabalala is popularly known for his amazing jam “Nkalakatha” which was released in the year 2000. This was a very popular track and album throughout Southern Africa and was voted Song of the year in 2000. Although it can be argued that he never had another song that topped the charts as much as Nkalakatha did, his career continued until 2013 when he released his final album Sgantsontso

His musical talents were discovered by the King of Kwaito Arthur Mafokate when Mandoza was in a group he formed called Chiskop. Mandoza used his music to create unity and encourage other South Africans to reach their goals.

Mandoza will be missed by his family and Kwaito music lovers everywhere. We hope he finds rest and eternal peace.
